I got into HR in the first place because I’m a people person. I love helping to bring talented new people on board, then connecting with them personally to make sure they feel supported from the moment they join our company.

So – I’ll admit, I was a little sceptical when we first discussed augmenting our HR resources with AI. Wouldn’t that be taking the human out of human resources? But actually, the opposite has turned out to be true.

I’ve used AI to help with job descriptions, with optimising interview questions and evaluating candidates’ answers. I’ve used it to help create an personalised onboarding process we’re really proud of – and to monitor employee performance. We use data analytics to help us understand more of what’s going on around us. And to be honest, I’ve given it lots of the admin-heavy stuff, number-crunching, formfilling, which has left me more flexibility and time for the face-to-face engagement work I really enjoy, and that has a really positive impact on the staff.

I feel good, much more empowered and happy in my role. Our employees feel like they’re getting more of the support and opportunities they deserve. And despite the fact that we’re growing fast, we’re still keeping a lid on HR costs. What’s not to like about that?
